Thorgate at forefront of Estonia-Norway healthtech partnerships

September was a busy month for the healthtech team at Thorgate. Our team, represented by key account managers Karl Okva and Evelin Mutli, spent a full month fostering partnerships to further innovation in healthtech. Thanks to our partners in Norway and Estonia, we were able to bring forth great ideas, plans and discussion points in a multitude of events we were at.

Innovation hangout in Oslo Science Park

The team attended the Third of the four series of Life Science Growth House innovation hangout in Oslo Science Park on the 8th September, 2022 with the topic being “Competence in and beyond academia”.

The event saw in its attendance, a lot of inspiring PhD / post-PhD students and researchers as well as interesting Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Healthcare companies like ClexBio, Nortura, ThermoFisher, Novartis, Gentian and Bayer.

The goal of the event was to strengthen the innovation culture to put more knowledge from research to use. The event aimed to inspire researchers and students, and facilitate collaboration between academia and industry. Thorgate found itself being a key player as we work closely with multiple Norwegian healthtech startups that are also closely affiliated with research institutions.

One main takeaway from the innovation hangout was that some of the most important skills academic researchers need to learn for industry are communication and teamwork. Helena Hauge, Senior Manager at PHARMAQ and Armend Håti, CEO at ClexBio inspired researchers and students with their talk emphasizing on the importance of connecting the researchers with innovators.

Estonian Connected Health Cluster delegation to Oslo

Thorgate was also invited by the Estonian Connected Health Cluster delegation to Oslo to explore health related opportunities in Norway. Two days were booked with different interesting Norwegian innovative companies who shared their product, vision and plans to make the future healthcare system for patients and hospitals easier to monitor and more accessible. The delegation included companies like Migrevention, Heba, Triumf Health, and of course Thorgate. We are very thankful to the Connected Health Cluster for organizing this well-planned visit.

Here’s a few takeaways we’re happy to share from these two day exclusive meetings between leading healthtech innovators in Norway and Estonia:

Teamwork and collaboration is essential to optimize growth within the healthcare industry that is not restricted within any borders. Cool initiatives like ShareLab showed us what is already and what can be implemented in the Oslo ecosystem.
Innovation requires being bold! Multiple presenters emphasized on the importance of using remote health technologies, and integrating these to existing care pathways.
Innovation and cooperation between startups, corporates and governments has the greatest potential for impact in improving healthcare.

Accompanying Estonia’s Minister of IT, Kristjan Jarvan, to Norway

Estonian minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, Kristjan Jarvan, was invited for a two day visit to Oslo where he met with Norwegian entrepreneurs such as Cathrine Ro Heuch, CEO at Nordic Brain Tech, and Maged Helmy, Director of Software Engineering at ODI Medical (both being key partners to Thorgate) among others. He was also part of a panel discussion at the Digital North Conference. Karl Okva of Thorgate accompanied Mr. Kristjan Jarvan through this visit to help meet key stakeholders in healthtech innovation in Norway.
